Search from the middle of a word
Keywords of three or more letters or digits also match inside longer words. Type 4401 and Find Text finds PN-44017 in purchase orders, packing slips, spreadsheets, and notes.
4401 finds PN-44017 across a text note, a PDF, and an Excel file.Shorter keywords, with one or two letters or digits, match whole words only. That keeps short searches from matching almost everything.
Match the start of a word with *
End a keyword with * to match words that start with it. ap* finds apple and approval; contract* finds contract, contractor, and contracts.
Chinese, Japanese, and Korean

Good uses
- Part numbers, SKUs, and serial numbers
- Invoice, order, and ticket numbers
- Product codes inside longer strings, such as
uv2inACUV2 - Names and terms you only half remember
The same rules apply in the command line tool: ft search 4401.
