Frequently Asked Questions
Does PDFtoDXF upload my PDF files for conversion?
No. PDF rendering, vector extraction, OCR preview, image cleanup, geometry reconstruction, preview rendering, and DXF generation run locally on your Mac in the current app workflow.
Why do I need to choose files and export locations?
PDFtoDXF uses macOS file panels and App Sandbox permissions. The app can open PDFs and save DXF files only in locations you choose, which keeps file access explicit and limited to your selected workflow.
Why are vector PDFs and scanned PDFs handled differently?
Vector PDFs may contain embedded drawing paths that can be converted more directly. Scanned PDFs are image-based, so the app must render the page, clean the raster image, run OCR-related preview steps when needed, reconstruct geometry, and then generate DXF output.
Why does a scanned PDF export use credits?
Scanned PDF export may use credits because it requires heavier local processing, including image cleanup, OCR-related processing, geometry reconstruction, and DXF generation. Vector PDF exports may be free depending on the app version.
Can one export save both standard DXF and OCR Text DXF?
When available, one export can save both the standard DXF and OCR Text DXF outputs at the same time. The app interface will show the export options available for the current conversion result.
What should I do if conversion quality is poor?
Start with the preflight preview and check page rotation, scan quality, contrast, and whether the PDF page is mostly vector or scanned. For scanned drawings, cleaner source scans usually produce better geometry reconstruction and text placement.
Why does the app show warnings or diagnostics?
Diagnostics help explain conversion state, such as whether a page is vector, scanned, mixed, hard to read, or missing enough useful drawing geometry. They are meant to help you decide whether to adjust settings, try another page, or inspect the output before exporting.
Where are exported DXF files saved?
Exported DXF files are saved only to the destination you choose in the macOS save panel. If you cannot find an exported file, check the selected save location and the filename used during export.
How are payments and subscriptions handled?
Payments, subscriptions, refunds, and purchase history are handled by Apple through the App Store. PDFtoDXF does not receive or store your credit card information.
