DjVu Pro is a macOS viewer and non-destructive page editor for user-selected DjVu documents. The app is designed around local file access and on-device processing.

Last updated: August 12, 2026

Scope of Data Processing

DjVu Pro processes the files and settings needed to provide its features. Depending on how you use the app, this may include selected DjVu or DjV documents, document paths and security-scoped file bookmarks, page images and metadata, embedded text, OCR text and text coordinates, search terms, page order and selection, highlights, page bookmarks, bookmark notes, the last viewed page, display preferences, print settings, and files created with Save As.

The app does not collect your name, phone number, contacts, location, advertising identifier, or other personal information for advertising or tracking.

Purpose of File Access

DjVu Pro uses macOS file panels, drag and drop, and App Sandbox permissions so you can choose the documents to open and the destinations where edited copies should be saved. File access is used only for actions you request, such as opening a document, rendering pages and thumbnails, extracting text, searching, printing, or writing a new DjVu file.

The app does not scan unrelated folders. Security-scoped file bookmarks may be stored in the app container so previously opened documents can be restored in your workspace when macOS permits access.

Local Viewing, Search, and OCR

DjVu decoding, page rendering, thumbnail generation, embedded-text extraction, full-document search, and OCR run locally on your Mac. Search combines available embedded DjVu text with an OCR index generated by Apple's on-device Vision framework. OCR analyzes rendered page images so search-result highlight positions correspond to the content displayed in the viewer, even when embedded document coordinates are inaccurate.

DjVu Pro does not upload your documents, page images, extracted text, OCR results, search terms, highlights, bookmarks, or notes to a DjVu Pro server for processing.

Local Storage and Temporary Files

DjVu Pro may store OCR indexes, highlights, page bookmarks, bookmark notes, workspace restoration data, file-access bookmarks, the last viewed page, and app preferences in its local macOS app container or Application Support directory. Cached OCR data helps avoid repeating document-wide recognition work.

The app may create temporary page images and working files while decoding, extracting text, rebuilding a document, or preparing output. These temporary files are created on your Mac and are removed when the related operation finishes whenever possible.

Non-Destructive Editing and Saved Documents

Reordering or deleting pages in the workspace does not directly modify the source document. DjVu Pro writes an edited document only when you choose Save As and select a destination. The new file is stored in the location you choose.

Highlights, bookmarks, and bookmark notes are stored separately from the source DjVu document. Removing a document from the current workspace does not delete the source file from disk.

Printing

When you print, DjVu Pro renders the selected pages locally and passes the print job to the standard macOS printing system. Printer selection, print range, paper settings, and the handling of the print job are controlled by macOS and the printer or print service you select.

Data Sharing

DjVu Pro does not sell your personal information. The app does not share your documents, OCR text, searches, annotations, or saved DjVu files with third parties. Data may be disclosed only when required by law, needed to protect security, or when you explicitly save, print, copy, upload, email, or otherwise share information using another app or service.

Data Retention and Deletion

Source documents and edited DjVu files remain in the locations you choose until you delete them. You can remove locally stored app data, including workspace history, file-access bookmarks, OCR indexes, highlights, bookmarks, notes, and preferences, by deleting the app and its associated container and Application Support data from your Mac.

Deleting local app data does not delete source or edited documents stored elsewhere on your Mac.
